General information

Elocon is a synthetic glucocorticoid . It is vailable in cream, ointment, and lotion form. It is prescribed for treatment of itching, inflammation of eczema, dermatitis, allergy, inflammation and itching dermatoses treated by glucocorticosteroids (GCS); conditions associated with hyperkeratosis (atopic and seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, chronic eczema). Elocon is supposed to induce production of proteins that inhibit lipocortins. These proteins control the biosynthesis of potent mediators of inflammation inhibiting the release of their common predecessor: arachidonic acid.

Directions

It is recommended to apply thick layer of the medicine to the affected skin one time per day.

Precautions

Logn-term use can cause an irritation. If it occurs stop using the cream and contact your doctor. Keep Elocon out of your eyes.

Contraindications

Patients with hypersensitivity to components of Elocon can't use it.

Possible side effect

Side effects can be the following: burning, itching, skin atrophy, acne rosacea. In general glucocorticosteroids (GCS)may cause irritation and dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acne like rash, hypopigmentation, perioral dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis (ACD), secondary infection, striae and miliaria (sweat rash).

Drug interaction

Elocon can't be used along with alkalis and anthralin topicals.

Missed dose

Take the missed dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time of the next intake just skip it and go back to your schedule.

Overdose

If you think you have overdosed the medicine seek emergency medical help at once. The overdose symptoms are acne, depression, excessive hair growth, high blood pressure, humped upper back, insomnia, moon-faced appearance, muscle weakness, obese trunk, paranoia, stretch marks, susceptibility to bruises and fractures.

Store the medicine at 2-25 C (36-77 F). Shake the lotion before each use.
